Let's go to Galaway

Up and out of hotel and a 25 minute walk to a 9am pickup with 9 others on a small bus. Mainly Aussies so all good.

First hour was just boaring freeway travelling, but then on the small roads. I said earlier Carolyn was chasing her heratige, well this area is where I believe we came from. I saw a billboard in a small villiage we passed.

I believe the "e" in daley was introduced on ships records when my ancestors got shipped to Australia.

But our first stop is at a distillery,  haven't been to one of those for a while. This is the oldest working distillery in Ireland (1757). Even much of the redundant equipment is still working as a museum piece. The outside water wheel still turns driving pumps. Final product tasted rather good!

Pub for lunch on the river next to an old fort.

Then on to see the remains of an early Abbey. The Abbey of Clonmacnoise is 1500 years old (and they still haven't put the roof on it)

From here we travel to Galway. Galway is far bigger than we expected and the many bars were packed.

But we went down some back lanes and found it much more quiet to our delight

Away from the centre was a pretty little city.
